About Saint Philip Lutheran Mission Society
In the spring of 2008, a group of students from Concordia Theological Seminary-Fort Wayne were given the opportunity to travel to Lutheran Theological Seminary in Pretoria (Tshwane), South Africa. While visiting, they saw firsthand the immense impact that the education at LTS had on Lutheran church bodies throughout the entire continent of Africa. Students were brought to LTS from several African countries, educated in the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions, and sent home in order to be ordained as pastors in their own communities. Upon seeing the importance of LTS for the future of the confession of the Lutheran Church in Africa, these students formed the Saint Philip Lutheran Mission Society.
The current role of the Saint Philip Lutheran Mission Society is to support and promote confessional Lutheran theological education of future pastors and deaconesses at LTS. We act as advocates for the education offered at LTS and raise financial aid to support the needs of both residential students and visiting professors.
